Ours is a large, extended, and truly loving family… there was never a moment in my life where I have not felt the totality of our family’s love and support. I hope that my reflections today may shed a light on how wonderful a person my cousin Amy was, and how lucky I am to have grown up with and reflect on the many years with her.
Living just a couple miles apart in our hometown, sharing the same wonderful Grandma and Granddaddy, and having only a few years between us, my first-cousin Amy and I were in and out of each other’s lives during our preteen and teenage years.
What I remember vividly about her in those days, more than the family meals we ate or the conversations we had, or pi
...zza Fridays is how warm and beautiful a smile my cousin had, she was always chattering and smiling.
In retrospect, Amy possessed a friendly and outgoing vivacious presence that radiated happiness to all of us. In today’s society, a close-knit family might not be deemed worthy of mention; but for the impact it made on all of us as we say good bye to our Amy.
Amy and I grew too far apart after I migrated for college and settled in central Texas. She stayed at home and became very involved in looking after family. The constant theme whenever I inquired about her was how industrious, how hardworking she had become, and true to her nature...always a big smile and hugs anytime we were together.
In recent family get-togethers I was impressed and comforted in discovering that my cousin had remained true to the God of her childhood and true to the principles of our family upbringing. As a family, we prayed for her, and as always, her smile shone bright.
We will miss her, but the memories of our early childhood and of her later years will remain a treasure.
May her beautiful, loving, hardworking, enduring soul finally rest in peace!

Much Love
