Bertha Faye Willett, of Mineral Wells, died August 30, 2019, with her family and friends by her side. She has joined her husband in the arms of God.
Service was Wednesday, September 4, with burial at Bosley Cemetery, Santo, Texas, next to her husband. A family visitation was held at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells.
Bertha Faye Willett was born November 25, 1927, to Robert E. Lee Russell and Birtha Mae (Howeth) Russell at the Russell Farm near Stephenville, Erath County, Texas. She married the love of her life, Melvin D. Willett, on July 17, 1943, in Mineral Wells. Bertha Faye Willett was a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell during World War II.
After the war ended she became a homemaker, seamstress, nurse's aide, secretary and medical transcriptionist. After the death of her husband she started a home cleaning service, finally retiring in 2000. In retirement she began making quilts for her children and grandchildren, "just to have something to do." During the summer she traveled to her favorite places in Colorado, New Mexico, Alabama and North Carolina.
She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she was an adult class Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by daughter, Sharron Brown, of Oklahoma; son, Gary Willett and John Bradley, of Texas; grandsons, Melvin Brown and wife, Kim, of Oklahoma, and Gordon Brown and wife, Tanja, of Texas; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mrs. R.D. Russell of Bluff Dale, Texas; nieces and nephews. Survivors also include special family members Jessie Wienecke, Opal Russell, Joyce Sarver, Elaine Mohr and special friends Bernie and Sandra Mitchell, Melinda and Lloyd Allen and Bobby Hadaway and his family; and the very special nursing staff at Holland Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings Orvell Russell, Maggie Cowley, Everett Russell, Hayden Stocks, Charlie Russell, Doyle Russell, Lucille Johnson, Carrie Mae Russell and son-in-Law Mark Brown, of Oklahoma.
