JoAnn York

Events

PALO PINTO - JoAnn York, 75, of Palo Pinto, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 3, 2019.
Service is 10 a.m., Friday, September 6, at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. Burial will follow at Palo Pinto Cemetery.
She was born January 5, 1944, in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, to Carl and Bernice Harbison. She grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she met and married Edward York on May 12, 1962. They had four children, Jeffrey, Gregory, Kerry and Matthew and eventually 11 grandchildren. She was a loving mother, wife, mimi, neighbor and friend, and will be sorely missed by all.
As she was raising her family, she spent many hours cooking, crocheting afghans, and sewing clothing, blankets, curtains and various craft items over the years. The favorite presents from Mimi, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, were the homemade things which were wrapped in black plastic trash bags.
In her later years, her passion switched from sewing to gardening, and her green thumb was evident in her beautifully landscaped lawn.
She loved people and never met a stranger. She enjoyed telling jokes, if she could remember the punch line, and making people smile by wearing goofy or conventional hats.
She lived in Oklahoma, Wyoming, California, but she kept coming back to Texas, particularly the Mineral Wells area. She tried out a number of occupations, including Respiratory Therapist at Palo Pinto Hospital, substitute teacher, and business owner of Country Stitchin' and Palo Pinto Emporium. Refinishing furniture and renovating houses were some of her favorite hobbies.
She served the Lord since childhood, attending many area churches over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Edward York; their children, Jeffrey and Julie York of Sultan, Washington, Gregory and Dawn York and children Rachel, Brooke, Alexandria and Braileigh York, of Blanco, Texas, Kerry and Steve Nieman and sons Taylor (Jessica), Kasey and Kyle Nieman, of the Houston area, and Matthew and Amy York and children Kaylee, Gage, Macy and Gavin York of Cedar Park, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Carl Harbison Jr.; as well as two grandchildren, Andrew and Adam York.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Parkinson's Foundation.

Such a sweet lady, she made me laugh everytime I saw her. She doesn't need hats where she is now, she has her crown of jewels. May God bless your family during this difficult time.
