Lurlein Spangler

Lurlein Spangler, 96, of Mineral Wells, Texas passed from her earthly bonds on June 27, 2019. After a brief battle with cancer. Lurlein was born on August 20, 1922 in Fort Worth, Texas to Archie and Gladys Forrester. Lurlein graduated from North Side High School in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 16 in 1939. She then entered Brantly Draughon Business College and attended for six months until she withdrew to marry the love of her life. John Henry Spangler, Jr. on March 20, 1940. Lurlein was the mother of four sons. Lurlein was a resident of Mineral Wells, Texas for 67 years. In July, 1952, she joined the First Christian Church and served as a deaconess, elder, and Officer in the Christian Women's Fellowship, and along with Paula Grabham, established and worked in the church food pantry form many years. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of the church. Lurlein worked as the secretary for the Inspector General at Fort Wolters for 17 ½ years, where she received several Outstanding Performance awards and worked at Fort Wolters until the Fort closed in 1974. In 1987, Lurlein joined the Daughters of the American Revolution and was still an active member at the time of her death. After her husband's death in 1995, Lurlein joined the volunteer program at Palo Pinto General Hospital, working in the gift shop for 17 ½ years. Lurlein was a devout Christian lady who devoted her life to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Lurlein told her entire family, on Mother's Day this year, that we shouldn't be sad when she passes from this life, but to be happy for her, because she will be with Jesus in Heaven, along with all of her family members who went before her. Lurlein was proud to share her love of the Lord with everyone she met, and she never complained about her illness, but was always concerned about the other persons well being. She is preceded in death by her mother, father and two brothers: Luke and Vernon Forrester; her husband, John H. Spangler, Jr., and son: Paul Edward Spangler. Lurlein is survived by three sons and their wives, John H. Spangler III (Betty), Lake Whitney, Texas, Bob (Ruth Ann), Hallsville, Texas, Philip (Debbie), Wichita Falls, Texas. She is also survived by five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several cousins, nephews, and nieces. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Mineral Wells. Interment will be at the Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells.

I’m 91 years old. My special memory with my aunt was the last visit with her. She was so kind to me. She gave me a suit case in 1945 and i still use it today. My condolences to the family. She is now in a better place. We all will miss her

I just read the sweet obituary for Aunt Lurlein. I loved her and appreciated her sweet Christian spirit. My thoughts are with your family tonight as you have your family visitation time and tomorrow during Aunt Lurlein's funeral. It is such a peace to know that she is beginning her new life with Christ! My love to all. Karon
