Liz Jonas
Liz Jonas, 85, passed away August 21, 2018, in Fort Worth.
Service is 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at First United Methodist Church with burial following in Willow Point Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. at Coker Funeral Home in Jacksboro.
Elizabeth Nelson was born October 5, 1932, in Vineyard, Texas, to Worth and Della Mae Ross Nelson. Liz was the youngest of seven children and, according to her siblings, she was spoiled. She will be dearly missed.
She graduated from Jacksboro High School, thereafter attending Durham Business School. She started working at the mail desk for the Tandy Corporation, eventually working her way up to Supervisor of Accounting. She played a major role in relocating the offices from Boston to Fort Worth when Tandy purchased Radio Shack. Liz later joined Pier 1 Imports as the Comptroller of Accounting.
In 1953, she married Mike Thornton from Joplin, Texas, who preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1965. She married Ed Jonas in 1974; and he passed February 12, 1991.
Around 1976, Liz became business manager for her sister, Mildred Nelson. As Mildred's health declined, Liz became more involved in the alternative cancer clinic Mildred had started in Tijuana, Mexico. By 1996, Liz was running the Bio Medical Center full-time, continuing to manage and participate in the daily operations of the center until her death. Liz, whose contributions became the heart and soul of the center, is beloved by all who have been touched by her work there. She always gave God the praise for her life and was thankful for each day.
Liz is survived by her son, Michiel Worth Thornton, his wife, Karen, and their son, Worth Thornton. She was blessed and also survived by her stepson, James "Bubba" Jonas, his wife, Lynn, and their children and grandchildren, Travis Jonas and wife Rebekah, children Erin and Eli; Tim Jonas and wife Christen, children Chloe, Jaxon, and Devon; Nikki Jonas, children Trent and Jodi Lynn; and Callen Hight and wife Bridget, children Bradley, Brayden, Dalton and Cailyn. Her stepdaughter Johnnie, Dryden and husband Frank also survived her.
She is also survived by her treasured nephew, Heath Hilliard, wife Jennifer, and their children, Isabella and Ava. She is further survived by her treasured nieces, Joyce Cheatham and husband Russell, and their granddaughter Channing; Mary Terrell and her son Joshua, his wife Sophia, and their children Gracie and Jeremy; and Jackie Parker, her husband Don and their son Randy, and wife Rebecca, and their children, Sabrina and Rachel and many other beloved nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Liz was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; her siblings, Mildred Nelson, Bobbie Potts, Jean Oliver, Marie Payne, Polly Oliver and W.A. Nelson Jr.; nieces, Vicki Webb and Rebecca Tackett; as well as two cherished grandsons, Carter Thornton and Trent Jonas.
