Olen R Mahaffey
MINERAL WELLS - Olen R. Mahaffey, 89, passed away Saturday, March 21st, 2020.
Olen Ray Mahaffey was born May 26, 1930 in Devol, Oklahoma to Konrad (Konnie) Wayne Mahaffey and Minnie Munkers Mahaffey. Olen grew up in Hart Camp, a farm community outside of Littlefield, TX, and graduated from Spade High School. After graduation, Olen received his Bachelors degree from Texas Tech before earning his Masters degree in Education. Olen went on to the teach school for 51 years, many of those years were spent teaching at Boswell High School.
On March 5, 1954, Olen married the great love of his life, Betty Putman. They raised two children together and were happily married until her passing in 2006. He was able to find love again, and married Bobbie Brewster on August 9, 2008, and they stayed together until she passed away in 2019.
Olen was an active member of the community. He was on the Saginaw City Council and was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ. Olen was an avid game player. He loved to play, and win, dominoes of all types (especially 42), Skip-Bo, Wa-Hoo, and Bingo. If no one was available to play with him, he'd spend hours playing Solitaire. He loved to go to flea markets and collect all types of memorabilia, especially Depression Glassware. His sense of humor and caring for others will always be cherished.
Preceded in death by: Wives, Betty Putman Mahaffey and Bobbie Brewster Mahaffey; parents, Konrad Wayne Mahaffey and Minnie Munkers Mahaffey; brothers, Wayne Mahaffey and Dennis Mahaffey; and sister, Marcella Yeager.
Survived by: Son, Rodney Mahaffey and wife Patti; daughter Linda Gerrald and husband Dennis; sister, Barbara Ruebush and husband Milton; grandchildren, Chad Mahaffey, Kyle Mahaffey, Stephen Gerrald, Sheila Joiner, Ricky Gerrald; Mark Moreland, Meghanne Moreland and Michael Moreland; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

I went to school from Travis elementary to Mineral Wells High school with Billy & Betty. Very good students and both were well liked by all our class mates. I attended Betty's Grave side service at Holders Chapel Cemetery in cool, Texas. I did not know about Billy's passing for several years later.
